Thanksgiving Liberian Style

Liberia celebrates a national day of Thanksgiving on the first Thursday in November. Traditionally, churches gather large baskets of fruit that are auctioned off featuring local items like mango and papaya. The highest bidder then takes the baskets home to share with family and friends.

Many of the staff of Hope International gathered on November 2nd in celebration of Thanksgiving to paint the newest building on Hope International’s campus which holds the medical clinic and the school cafeteria.

Thank you staff for showing up each and every day and setting an example of dedication and professionalism for your students.

Hope is Off to a Good Start

School officially opened for the 2023-2024 academic year on September 11th. Our 1,300 students were so excited to be back on campus after a two-month break.

To be honest, there are so many neighboring schools that have not yet opened in Liberia. Most schools have raised their fees this year, making it a deep struggle for families to send their children to school. Hope International has made education possible for many struggling families. Thank you for partnering with us here in Liberia.

With Gratitude,
Mark Howe

Hope is Good Medicine

At the start of each school year, our school nurse Sonnie does her supply inventory for the medical clinic and sends the needs list. This small clinic serves Hope International students, staff, their families, and the surrounding community. Sonnie has on average 175 visits a month.

This year, through a Facebook birthday fundraiser, the $1,554 needed to restock the shelves was raised and sent off to Liberia.

We just received photos of the supplies purchased. Such a quick turnaround at Hope. We celebrate birthdays, nurses, needs being met, and all of you.
