Power of Hope

Our third, on-site vocational program, Power of Hope began in 2022. Students are being trained to pursue employment as electrical technicians in both the private and public sectors.

Upon graduation, students are equipped with technical and electrical skills to increase their income and grow professionally, providing a stable income for themselves and their families. We are honored to introduce you to one of these graduates, Helen, from the first class of Power of Hope.

Helen is chasing her career dreams and is the first graduate of the program to find a position with Liberian Electricity Corporation (LEC). Upon graduating in 2023 from Power of Hope, she began networking and pursuing employment with LEC, but was told there were no openings. Not deterred, Helen knocked on the door frequently. She offered her skills as a volunteer. After 3 months of volunteering, Helen was offered her first temporary contract with LEC which enabled her to earn $225 a month. Currently, she is working on a project responsible for meter distribution.

Helen shared the following, “I want to thank The Hope Project for this wonderful opportunity. Your hard work and support have changed my life, and I can make an impact on my family and society as well. You have given me enough hope to experience a great future. Thank you.”

Her dream is to become a permanent employee of LEC and is hoping for this by the end of 2025. When fully employed, Helen says she will save money and possibly save enough to pursue a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
